COMPOSITION COMPETITION REGENSBURG 2021

The fourth edition of the composition competition held in Regensburg on the present-related annual theme of the Cultural Department 2021: "Nahsicht" (=Close-up view). The competition is aimed at composers of all ages who compose new works and bring them to Regensburg for their world premiere. In the past three editions, over 200 new works have already been submitted for the city of Regensburg.

In addition to the theme "Nahsicht", the only specifications are the instrumentation of the performing ensemble (sextet, SMezATBarB, soloist cast), as well as a total work length of no more than 6 minutes. New in 2021 is the possibility to add one or two additional instrumental parts to the sextet ad libitum. The composers are thus given as creative an approach as possible to sounds, freely chosen texts and spatial concepts.

The compositions must meet the following criteria

  • Content-related examination of the motto "Nahsicht"

  • Text basis freely selectable

  • Performance duration maximum 6 minutes

  • Six-part composition for the StimmGold vocal ensemble (SMezATBarB, soloist), optionally as a six-part a cappella composition, or with cello and/or percussion part (1 cello player and/or 1 percussion player)

    • 1 bass drum

    • 1 tambourine

    • 1 TamTam

    • Various windchimes, woodblocks, triangles, cymbals

  • Only one composition per composer

  • If the text set to music is not public domain material, the right of use for performance and publication in a publishing house must be available.

StimmGold Vokalensemble

The vocalensemble "StimmGold" was chosen as the ensemble for the final concert. The Regensburg vocal ensemble StimmGold was founded in early 2014 by students of the University of Catholic Church Music and Music Education Regensburg (HfKM) and the Faculty of Music Education at the University of Regensburg. The six classically trained singers are united by years of ensemble practice and extensive choral experience, but above all by the joy of singing demanding works together. The main focus of the ensemble is German romantic vocal music as well as current a cappella literature, including world premieres of contemporary works and modern arrangements, in which the professional voices convince with expressiveness and harmonic transparency. After various commissioned compositions in recent years (including Rihards Dubra, Enjott Schneider and Bernhard Hofmann), composition competitions for the StimmGold Vocal Ensemble on the cultural annual theme of the hometown of Regensburg took place in 2018, 2019 and 2020. This series will be continued in 2021 with the theme "Close-up View". In November 2019, the ensemble's first CD "Golden Moments at Christmas" was released by Spektral Records. On the same label, the second CD recording will follow in 2021 with six-part works by Hans Leo Haßler, the commissioned composition "Farben der Glocke" by Enjott Schneider, and prize-winning works from past Regensburg composition competitions.
